Been Busy As Usual

Let’s say that I lead an active retirement life.

I don’t sit around on my arse all the time. I have things to do, places to go, people to serve, photos to take, and a small photography business to get off the ground.

In no specific order, since the last update…

… I served 20 hours in the Clinic vaccinating children for routine childhood disease protection (contrary to Flor-a-stupid)

… I also administered more than 750 updated Covid-19 vaccinations. Since Sec’y Wormbrain’s new Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP) has been reconstituted with conspiracy theorists and anti-vaxxers, I fear the real likelihood that when this new lot of dumbass idiots meet on September 19, new protocols about vaccinations will be issued that insurance providers will follow — meaning that it will be much harder to get these shots. If you haven’t gotten an updated Covid-19 shot, get it NOW!

… I learned how to make photo magnets featuring puffins! Thanks to my next-door neighbors who let me use their refrigerator as a model since my own fridge won’t hold a magnet. These new magnets will be featured as items for sale on my new professional photography website, coming soon to an Internet near you!

… I took a birding day trip courtesy of the Port of Baltimore and the Maryland Environmental Service to visit Hart-Miller Island in the Chesapeake Bay. This is a man-made island composed of dredge material used to form the Port of Baltimore ship channel. This trip was particularly for bird enthusiasts (“birders”). I joined as a photographer.

Oh my my my… let’s say I learned a lot: I get dizzy looking straight up; do NOT follow camera-setting instructions on YouTube else you’ll end up with millions, well thousands, of images in rapid-fire sequence; I don’t know an eagle from an egret, but don’t say that in front of world-class ornithologists; lithe and agile scrambling around isn’t my style; I’m not sure if bird photography is something I enjoy. Still thinkin’ on it.

Yesterday, I suited up and went with my best bud Mike Landi to the University of Maryland for the annual Founder’s Legacy Society lunch. This is a fancy lunch for those who have gift agreements for planned giving. It is my pleasure to support scholarships for student leaders, students becoming teachers, and sponsor the Student Alumni Leadership Council.

We had a short but really interesting presentation on the use of automated intelligence (AI) for learning to play the violin. Afterwards, I was able to visit with other researchers and students who are working on fascinating AI projects. Wow… blew my socks off.

In between all these activities, I am cleaning house like a mad-man. I will be hosting four guests who will attend my high school’s 50th reunion September 25-29th, so I gotta get back to cleanin’…

Life is short: live forward with drive, purpose, and intention!
